Our Momma, Lois Stevens, took the hand of her Savior Jesus early in the evening on October 11, 2022. Lois Elaine Stevens left behind her earthly home in exchange for far superior accommodations. She is now at peace, breathing easy and resting in the presence of her Savior Jesus.

Lois was born in Central City Nebraska on March 5. 1946 to Fred H. & Dorathea L. (Strobel) Carter. The 6th child of what would grow to a brood of nine children, Lois would learn the importance of family (you stick together), the art of laughter (even when times were hard), and the joy that is found when you learn to harmonize with those you love.

In 1955, the family packed up and moved to Idaho Falls where opportunities for work were more plentiful for her father. They spent some time in Lincoln (East of Idaho Falls) but soon ended up in an old Basalt stone house in Lewisville Idaho. She graduated from Rigby High School in 1964 and attended Cosmetology school at Vogue Beauty School in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

In 1967 while visiting her older sister in California, she met and soon married Donald Shelton. Although that marriage would end in divorce, she emerged stronger as she walked towards her fresh start with two gems, her son David Scott and her daughter Deborah Marie.

After returning to Idaho, she would meet the love of her life, Rendell Stevens. They were married on February 14, 1976 and her children became “theirs”. Their family would soon be complete as in just over a few years three more children were born; first Melissa Rae, then Amanda Kae and lastly the perfect capstone, Melinda Elaine. Lois and Rendell enjoyed many happy years camping, bowling, and going to the casino. Their love was made stronger through trials, and they both were reminded of the importance of family (you stick together), the art of laughter (even when times are hard), and the joy that is found when you learn to harmonize with those you love.

In addition to her husband Rendell, and their children, David S. Shelton (Kim), Little River, S.C.; Deborah Marie Chessey, Rigby, ID; Melissa (Clay) Hess, Menan, ID; Amanda Stevens, Rigby ID; & Melinda Elaine Stevens, Lewisville, ID; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; Lois is also survived by her older sister Lorna (Charles) Howell of Idaho Falls, ID; her older brother Larry (Naomi) Carter of Preston, ID; her younger brother David (Gayle) Carter of Idaho Falls, ID; and her sister in-law Carol Carter of Rigby, ID.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters: Mike (Bonnie) Carter, Jim, Louann (Merle Anderson), Marie Neil, & RoyDean Carter.

In her spare time, Lois enjoyed gardening, singing in the church choir and ‘jamming’ with her siblings, decorating for Christmas (guild that lily), and sewing. Over the years, Lois would work as a dental assistant, in a jewelry story, and cashiering at a local gas station and co-op, but her most significant role was that as caregiver. She loved fiercely. If she was in your corner, you always knew you were in good shape. The last several years Lois enjoyed the tender care of her husband and children. She was loved fiercely, and she knew she was in good hands.

Funeral service will be held, Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at Crown of Life Lutheran Church located in Rigby Idaho. Graveside service to follow at Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
