Maxine Gwen Long Black, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 27, 2024, at Idaho Falls Community Hospital.

Maxine was born November 18, 1941, in Ammon, Idaho, to Glenn Christensen Long and Hazel Almeda Hymas Long. She grew up and attended schools in Ammon and graduated from Bonneville High School in 1960.

On December 1, 1960, she married Richard Dennis Black in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Maxine and Richard made their home in Iona where they raised their eight children and made many lifelong friends.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various callings through the years. She enjoyed singing, gardening, arts and crafts, and decorating her home and yard. She especially loved being a mother and grandmother and spending time with her family. They were her greatest joy. She created a home where all felt welcomed and loved, and many cherished memories were made.

Maxine is survived by her daughter, Sherri (Rod) Clark of Menan, ID; daughter, Polly (Delaun, deceased) Messick of Meridian, ID; daughter, Lisa (Howard) Hart of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Richard (Angie) Black of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Jason (Connie) Black of Meridian, ID; daughter, Betsy (Layne) Smith of Draper, UT; daughter, Mary (Greg) Taylor of Meridian, ID; son, Brian (Lindsey) Black of Smithfield, UT; sister, Ann Tyler of Ammon, ID; brother, Gaylen (Nancy) Long of Iona, ID; 27 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard D. Black; parents, Glenn and Hazel Long; daughters, Bonnie and Connie Black; and brothers, Lester Long and Darrell Long.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
