Meredith Ann (Hansen) Brown
February 26th, 1941 - August 3rd, 2024
Meredith Ann (Hansen) Brown, 83, returned to her heavenly home on August 3rd, 2024, at her home in Lincoln Court in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Meredith was born in Blackfoot, Bingham County, Idaho, on February 26th, 1941. She was born to Andrew Peter Hansen and Agnes Lucy (Durrant) Hansen. She was raised in Blackfoot, Idaho. She graduated from Snake River High School, then continued on to graduate from Utah State with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. In 1963, she married Charles Welker Briggs in the Idaho Falls Temple. They raised four children together; Brian Charles (1966), Michele (1971), Rebecca Ann (1973), and Suzanne (1975). Meredith taught Home Economics at Box Elder High School. Charles and Meredith moved to Detroit, where Meredith was a homemaker. She used her degree every day. She sewed her children’s clothes, cooked fabulous meals, gardened and canned food for her family. She was a loving mother and always said that it was her most important role on this Earth.
The family moved to Idaho Falls in 1982. There, Meredith was a substitute teacher, dietician’s assistant, a seamstress, and worked with disabled adults at both Options, Inc. and The Adventure Center. She belonged to Toastmasters, Quilt Club, and Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
Charles and Meredith divorced in 1999. She later married Lawrence Jay Brown on December 7, 2002. Meredith and Jay served a mission together in Salt Lake City at the Family History Library. Combined, they have 6 children and have been blessed with 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Meredith was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving others in various callings throughout her life. She served in young women’s and primary and was the Relief Society President in her ward in Michigan. She especially loved working with the young women and going to Girl’s Camp. Meredith enjoyed sewing, baking, speaking, canning, quilting, and teaching 4-H to her children and grandchildren.
Though she had many trials, she faced them with courage, determination, and faith that things would work out. Meredith will be remembered for her faith in Jesus Christ, her testimony of the power of prayer and her witty sense of humor. She was so glad her mother named her Meredith, because that’s what everybody called her. She was influential in the lives of everyone around her up until her final moments and those that were loved by her honored her by returning the favor and loving her right back.
Meredith was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Dale, Cleone, Duane, Marva and Dwight. She is survived by her husband Jay; her siblings Andy Earl, Lanny, Roland, and Bonnie; her children, Brian (Dana) Briggs, Michele (Eric) Pettingill, Becky (Mike) Jarvis, and Suzanne (Logan) Hoyle; her step-children Russell (Stephanie) Brown and Troy Brown; and her lifelong and devoted friend, Elaine Morehead.
A viewing will precede the funeral on Thursday, August 8th from 10-10:45am. The funeral will begin at 11am and take place at the LDS church on 2040 Brentwood Drive. An internment in the Ammon Cemetery will follow services.
