Michael Corey Smith
May 29th, 1955 - December 29th, 2024
Michael Corey Smith, 69, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away on December 29, 2024, due to kidney failure. He was under the care of Solace Hospice and his loving family.
Mike was born May 29, 1955, in Los Angeles, California, to Elliott Davis Smith and Joyce Vanfleet Smith. He was the third of nine children. He grew up in Redondo Beach and Torrance, CA, attending Adams Elementary School and graduated from Torrance High School in 1973. He attended El Camino College and completed his education at Cal State University Dominguez Hills in June 1982, with a BS in Chemistry. In 1975, Mike served a 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Mexico City Mission.
He met his future wife, Marcia Susan Hatter, in high school. They were married April 5, 1977, and lived in Lomita, Torrance, and Long Beach, California, while Mike completed his college training. Two children were born during this time: Joshua Michael in 1978 and Corey David in 1981. In 1980, Mike started working for Scanning Electron Analysis Labs (SEAL). In 1984, he joined Intermedics in Texas. The family moved to Lake Jackson, Texas, where their daughter, Keely Marie, was born in 1985. In 1999, Mike joined Guidant Corporation, later bought by Boston Scientific. They moved to Lino Lakes, Minnesota. He retired in 2020 and moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho, to be near the grandkids.
He enjoyed working in the church, gardening, hiking, snow skiing, and hanging out with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Davis in childhood; and brother-in-law, Stanley David Jacobs.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia; son, Joshua, and his wife, Aleasha and their children, Ava, Emery, Kinlee, Hansen, and Lindon of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Corey and his wife, Erika, and their children, Ella and Jackson of Rigby, ID; daughter, Keely of Thorton, CO; siblings, Linda Harmon (Doug), Mary (Alisha) Smith (Sonny Hand), Lori Smith, Wendy Jacobs, Julene Fudge (Shaun), David Smith (Nina), and Aaron Smith (Andrea); as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the Discovery Ward, 4440 High Grove Rd., Idaho Falls, ID 83401. A visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4, in the Garland Cemetery in Garland, Utah.
