It is with heavy hearts that the Bean family announces the passing of Michael Wayne Bean, age 64, who died peacefully among close family and friends on August 11, 2024, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. Born on January 1, 1960, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Gaylon and Margaret Judith Bean, Mike grew up in Idaho Falls, where he forged a life marked by an indomitable spirit.

Mike attended the University of Idaho, where he was a proud and active member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business and a minor in economics. After moving to Portland, Oregon, Mike married Deborah (Wolfe) Bean in 1986. His career with National Gypsum saw him rise swiftly through the ranks, working first as a salesman and later as a divisional leader in Seattle, WA, San Francisco, CA, Omaha, NE, and Minneapolis, MN.

Driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Mike returned to Idaho Falls where he co-founded the building supply division of Western Wholesale, successfully growing the company over the course of three decades. Recognized for his leadership in the industry, Mike served on the Board of Directors for AMAROK Drywall Cooperative (now AD Gypsum Supply). Mike was not only a dynamic business figure but also a mentor and friend to many. Employees who worked alongside him for decades became more than just staff—they were part of a loyal team that thrived under his mentorship and charismatic influence.

Outside of business, Mike was a caring family man and a history and firearms enthusiast. He found joy in sharing his love of hunting, shooting, and boating with his children, imparting to them the same passion and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life. Mike was also deeply committed to his community, serving as a Cub Scout leader, a Shriner, and a Freemason with the Masonic Lodge. His passionate opinions, entrepreneurial drive, and larger-than-life personality were the hallmarks of his life.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, Judy and Gaylon Bean. He leaves behind his wife, Deborah, their four children: Matthew (Alison) Bean, Jacob (Catherine) Bean, Courtney (Christian Jensen), and Jonathan Bean; his sister, Anne (Edward Wicher); his stepmother Lucy Bean and six grandchildren: Philip, Noah, Thomas, Grace, Charles, and William Bean.

A memorial service to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 3:30 p.m. at Christ Community Church located at 5742 South 5th West, Idaho Falls, ID 83404. Following the memorial service, there will be a reception from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at The Brickyard Event Center located at 1025 S Ammon Road, Ammon, ID 83406.
