Renee Jackman Johnson, 85, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away August 8, 2024, at Carriage Cove.

Renee was born November 6, 1938, in tiny Joseph, Utah, to Ezbon Layton Jackman and Sarah Killarnia Moore Jackman. She was the baby, a last minute surprise, of eight children.

Renee spent part of her childhood in Salt Lake City and remembered the blackouts during World War II. She hated the dark the rest of her life. The family moved to Nampa, Idaho, the summer before she began 4th grade. A housing shortage had them living in a railcar at first.

After graduating from Nampa High School, she worked a couple of years in a mattress factory and then moved to Rexburg to attend Ricks College. There she met a handsome young man named Bud Lee Johnson. They were married June 29, 1960, in the Idaho Falls Temple.

After a year in Blackfoot, and two in Logan, Utah, they returned to Rexburg with three daughters. In time they added a son and two more daughters. She returned to Ricks as an adult and earned an associates degree while continuing to raise her family.

Renee was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings during her life including Primary, Scouting, as a Family History Service Missionary, and of course music.

Music was a lifelong love her parents had instilled from an early age. She was a charter member of the Cantabile Singers, a community women’s choir. She spent many of her retirement years as a member and officer in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP). Her daughters remember her sewing talents as she made many of their clothes as they grew. She enjoyed growing flowers in her yard.

Renee began working in the Registrar’s office at Ricks College once her youngest was in school. She retired when Bud became ill and needed care.

Renee was preceded in death by her husband, parents, siblings, and granddaughter, Jasmine, and Jasmine’s husband, Lyle.

She is survived by her children, Catherine Johnson of Rexburg, ID; Elaine Johnson of Idaho Falls, ID; Diann (Roy) Flores of Rexburg, ID; David (Rebecca) Johnson of Clearfield, UT; Kristine (Kim) Dye of Rigby, ID; and Maria Johnson of Rexburg, ID; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at the Rexburg Summerfield 3rd Ward, 210 South 12th West. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior, both visitations at the church. Burial will be in Burton Cemetery.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
