Richard Baxter
July 6th, 1941 - June 7th, 2024
Richard Lee Baxter, 82, of Idaho Falls, passed away June 7, 2024, at home with his wife and many loved ones. He was under the care of Brio Hospice.
Richard was born July 6, 1941, in Salmon, Idaho, to Dereld R. Baxter and Irene Hamson Baxter. He grew up in Rigby and graduated from Weiser High School. Richard served in the United States Army for four years and was privileged to work in the White House under the Kennedy administration. He attended Utah State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts.
On December 18, 1964, he married Linda Maughan in the Salt Lake City temple. Richard and Linda lived in several places throughout the years in Utah and Idaho, raising their nine children. They made their final home in Idaho Falls.
Some of Richard’s hobbies included gardening, rock hounding, and silversmithing. He loved to fly fish and even tied his own flies. He was a great cook, enjoyed camping, and was an excellent self-taught auto mechanic. Being a natural teacher and instructor, he enjoyed teaching his children these hobbies and skills.
Richard is survived by his wife, Linda Baxter; children, David (Shelly) Baxter, Darin (Jill) Baxter, Kevin (Jacki) Baxter, Lorena (Larry) Angell, Robert (Michaela) Baxter, Carolyn (Alex) Collette, Jeremy Baxter, Melanie (Jeffrey) Wade, and Deb Baxter (Dave Swanson); also 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings, Dale Baxter, Anne Marie Baxter, sister-in-law Carla Baxter, and Steve (Cindy) Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Russell Baxter, and sister-in-law Julia Baxter.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at The Village Park Ward, 1345 Clarence Drive, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Russell Gold officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior. The burial will be in Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by David B Bleak Post 93 and the Idaho Honor Guard.
