Ricky LaMont Mortensen, 72, of Salem, ID, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025 at his home in Salem, surrounded by loved ones.

Rick was born on November 9, 1952, in Toppenish, WA, to LaMont Mortensen and Doris Klingler. He was a graduate of Sugar-Salem High School and later studied Consumer Electronics and Computer Programming at Eastern Idaho Vocational and Technical School.

Rick served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Seaside Heights, NJ, Monterey, CA, Fallon, NV, and on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held callings in Scouting and Elders Quorum.

While attending technical school after his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked for Madison County and participated in building the community park near Twin Bridges. He then went on to work at Anderson Lumber and BMC West for many years.

Rick enjoyed a multitude of hobbies and interests throughout his life, including writing and poetry, family history, painting, music, building and launching rockets, model railroading, woodworking, camping, hunting, and fishing, magic tricks, CB radio, and most of all spending time with family and friends

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Debbie Mortensen of Salem; his children Angela (Gene) Ammerman of Meridian, Bob (Ruth) Mortensen of Salem, Jason Mortensen and Travis (Kim) Mortensen of Eagle Mountain, UT, as well as 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren with a third on the way. He was preceded in death by his father, LaMont Mortensen, his mother Doris Anderson, his step-father, Louis Anderson, his sisters, DiAnn Wright and Twylla Mortensen, his brother, Terry Mortensen, his father-in-law, Boyd Summers, and his daughter-in-law Katie Mortensen.

Funeral services will held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, at the Salem LDS Chapel with Bishop Ryan Klingler officiating. Friends may call at Flamm Funeral Home Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in the Rexburg Cemetery with military rites.
