Ronald Willard Hutchings, 93, of Idaho Falls, passed away April 13, 2023, at his home. He was under the care of his loving family and OneSource Home Health.

Ron was born on June 29, 1929, in Rochester, New York, to Donald John Hutchings and Othelda Catherine Cameron Hutchings. He had two younger sisters, Betty Lou and Donna May. He attended grade school in North Chili, New York, and high school in Churchville, New York. Ron attended college at Rochester Institute of Technology where he studied Chemistry. After three years, he graduated with a degree in Chemistry and worked for General Motors full time for five years in the chemistry lab; he later returned to school and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Chemistry.

Playing baseball in grade school, sailing, motor boating, swimming, and fishing were favorite pastimes for Ron as a child. In high school, he played basketball and soccer for four years. His family camped on Lake Ontario during the summer months each year, which he considered a special place. Fishing trips to Canada and trips to Lake Ontario were his favorites.

Ron was enlisted in the New York National Guard in the 127th AAA Battalion of the 27th Division from 1947 to 1957. He was a Sergeant at the time of his discharge.

In 1957, Ron took a position with RT French Company which took him to Shelley, Idaho, where he held several positions that eventually led to Lab Manager. After 22 years, RT French sold to Pillsbury, and Ron worked as their Program Manager of the research and development lab for 10 years. Ron retired one year after the company was sold to General Mills. During these years, Ron made many wonderful friends.

Ron married Darla Lynne Carl on December 28, 1962. They had two children, Erik Clay and Kristi Lynne. They later divorced. On June 6, 1975, he married Barbara Mae Pemberton Wright, who had four children, Daryl, Kirk, Michelle, and Christopher. He was blessed with ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Ron and Barbara made their home in Idaho Falls. They enjoyed traveling, camping, boating, sailing, fishing, and cross-country skiing together and with family. They treasured their time in Palisades at the small cabin Ron designed and built in 2007. Reading and walking were other favorite pastimes for Ron. He most especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
