Shannon Marie Pruitt passed away on September 11, 2024, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly.

Shannon Marie Likes Pruitt was born Friday, March 13, 1953, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, at the Sacred Heart Hospital to Donald Taylor Likes “Gus” and Phyllis Lucille Bray Likes. Shannon was premature weighing 2 lbs. 10 oz. when she was born. The nuns at the hospital cared for her until she was 5 lbs. and then her parents were allowed to take her home.

At 13 years old she was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She remained a faithful member throughout her life holding many callings in the young women’s, primary and relief society. Many of these callings she was in the leadership.

Growing up she stayed active in many school clubs and sports and enjoyed participation in pep-club. Her senior year of high school she started dating Joe Pruitt, who had been in many of her classes while growing up. She graduated from Skyline in 1971, and was married to her sweetheart Joe in June of 1972.

After marriage, they moved to Rexburg to attend Ricks College, so Joe could continue his associates degree. Shannon worked in the bookstore at the college while Joe attended classes. Once Joe finished at Ricks they moved down to Provo to attend BYU, where their family began with their son Doug. Once Joe graduated, they moved again down to Chatsworth, California, where they stayed for 2 years, and then they were able to move back to Idaho Falls. This is where their family continued to grow with the birth of Michelle and then Courtney.

Shannon never failed to show her love and caring to those she knew, but also to those she would just meet. She never met someone that wouldn’t be her friend by the end of her conversation. She could pick up a conversation with anyone, especially those with a baby, she always had to comment how adorable they were, and then start talking about her grandkids and how she loved them so much.

Through life, Shannon fought through many illnesses. Under the care of Joe, she was able to continue to love her family and friends, welcoming them in their home and carrying them in her heart. Even when she was healing from her variety of illnesses, she would make every effort to provide cards, gifts, and calls to all in her heart, with Joe acting as the delivery agent. Her love of her Savior and Heavenly Father was shared with her family, and her testimony of forever families lives on in the lives and hearts of all her family.

Shannon is survived by her loving husband Joe; her children, Doug (Mitzi) Pruitt, Michelle (Donny) Hansen, Courtney (Jason) Pickup; 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren; sister, Sherry (Rex) Helm; brother, Todd (Melissa) Likes; and many nieces and nephews.

Shannon was preceded in death by her parents, and younger sister.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Rose Hill Cemetery, 2355 Rollandet. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:30-8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
