It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Susan Pearl Cox, 72, of Shelley, Idaho, who peacefully left us on November 16, 2024. Sue was born on April 24, 1952, in Jerome, Idaho, to Jerry and Pearl Davis.

Sue’s life was marked by love, adventure, and a deep devotion to her family. She met the love of her life, Dan Cox, in 1993, and they married on May 27, 1994. Together, they shared a fulfilling 30 years of love, laughter, and countless adventures.

Before meeting Dan, Sue had already lived a rich, full life. She married her first husband, Douglas Hutchison, in Richfield, Idaho, and together they embarked on a “cowboy adventure” that took them to various states where they ranched and raised their two sons, Larry and Jerry Hutchison. While their paths eventually diverged, Sue went on to marry Don Grubb, who became a loving stepfather to her sons. In time, Sue set off on a solo adventure before finding Dan, her perfect match.

Throughout her life, Sue was a woman of many talents and passions. She worked as a rancher in the deserts of Nevada, Arizona, and Idaho, raising her children while navigating the challenges of life on the range. Sue later worked as a waitress, ran her own house cleaning business, and did clerical work for a time. Her heart, however, always remained with her family, and her zest for life was felt by all who knew her.

Sue was a fantastic cook, with a special gift for making homemade jams and jellies that were highly sought after by family and friends. Her culinary creations were a reflection of her warmth and generosity, always shared with love and joy. Her home was often filled with the sweet scent of fresh preserves, and her food brought comfort and delight to all who had the pleasure of enjoying it.

Sue had a deep love for her family, and her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She had a creative spirit and an eye for beauty, which she expressed through her passion for sewing, quilting, and tending to the vibrant flowers that graced her home. She was also an avid bowler and loved nothing more than gathering with loved ones. Known for her “spicy” character and quick wit, Sue was a source of joy, laughter, and inspiration to all who crossed her path.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Pearl Davis, and her stepson, Brian Cox.

She is survived by her loving husband, Dan Cox; her sons, Larry Hutchison and Jerry (Joelene) Hutchison; stepchildren, Dan (Kristine) Cox, Laura (Lance) Linsenmann; siblings, Elaine Faddis, Diane Behrens, Christine Kerlin, Vicky Saul, Jerri Davis, and Allan Davis; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the LDS Woodville 1st Ward, 1555 N. 700 E. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Following the service, a private burial will take place at the Richfield, Idaho Cemetery for close family.
